Rumor has it that HEB may be changing their corporate coupon policy sometime today, September 25, 2015.
I've heard from a source that the chain will be limiting coupons to 10 like coupons per transaction going forward.
If this is correct, shoppers would be able to use more than 10 coupons in a transaction -- but if you had, say, 12 Garnier coupons and 12 Campbell's Soup coupons, you would only be allowed to use 10 of each at one time.
As of publication time, the HEB coupon policy has not been updated online, so I can't say for sure this is happening.
It could very well be that only certain stores are testing a limit on like coupons. That's allowed under the HEB coupon policy, since there's a line stating that "HEB reserves the right to refuse any coupon or limit quantities."
So that's definitely one possibility.
I also don't know if this policy change would extend to the yellow HEB coupons as well, or if it will only include manufacturer coupons.
If this change to the HEB corporate coupon policy does happen, however, it will mean HEB falls more in line with its competitors' approach to coupon limits.
For example, Target already limits shoppers to four like coupons per transaction, and Walmart requires supervisor verification when more than four like coupons are used in a single shopping trip.
Will this possible change impact your couponing and shopping habits? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

So, if this policy is in fact going to be updated, then "If" the coupon does not have a limit, you are able to use 10 or each. AND... IT doesn't mean we can use 10 Unilever or p&g qs right? Curious what it actually means... Help!
ReplyDeleteHey Tanya! If the rumor is in fact correct, we will only be able to use even the maximum of 10 like coupons when the coupon itself does not have additional limitations. When the coupon fine print already restricts like coupons to two or four, we will still be held to that lower number.
DeleteAwesome! Great information to share in my classes... I appreciate all you do..
DeleteHappy to help! I will update everyone if and when the policy actually does change, so stay tuned. :D
DeleteAll this is going to do is force us to do multiple transactions.. hubby go 1 line over and check out with these
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if this possible change might be intended to help stores with speed of service. I would say couponers who use double-digits worth of like coupons are a small minority of shoppers, but they can really hold up a line -- so making people split up transactions may lower checkout times for shoppers overall. Just a theory based on my previous retail experience!

ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Some people fill their baskets with great deals and leave NOTHING for the rest. 10 of the same item should be plenty! Way to go HEB!
ReplyDeletethought it already was ten
ReplyDeletewe were buying pasta once some time back in shertz using the in store yellow coupons and we asked a cashier if it was ok that we had gotten ten.. she said ten was alright that was the limit they allowed.
which was fine by us it was all we wanted.
Hi anonymous! HEB corporate does not currently have a limit on like coupons, but individual store managers have always had the right to set limits for their particular stores. So IF this rumor is true, it would set a hard and fast limit for all stores in the company.
DeleteHello I think 10 like coupons are enough to. it's good to know because we still can couponing and if we need more then we can do 2 different transactions. The HEB I go I always try to go to the same lady cuz she knows me.
ReplyDeleteAlso like Target they said its 4 like coupons and I asked the manager what happens when the coupon said only "2 like coupons" The manager reply" I don't care what the coupon says will always be 4 like coupons.
I don't think will mess up our habit because I don't think we like 10 of the same items. But for example when we get Catalina's like degree that we had to buy 9. I never had to buy 10 items but I don't think will mess up our couponing.
If we going to use 15 items then I'll do 2 separate transactions that way I can obey the policy :)
I actually think this could be a good thing in the long run. It will help spread the great deals around to more customers, so to speak. I rarely use that many of the same kind of coupon but it's still a good number. But what worries me is that some of the cashiers will interpret it as us only being able to use 10 coupons in one transaction. I still run into the "per purchase means per transaction" so hopefully the policy will clearly tell employees that it is 10 of the same kind of coupon.
ReplyDeleteI think its a big deal since most time manufac. coupons have limits already. but for instance by experience for a party once we needed drinks and they had a store yellow coupon for their clubsoda 12pks and we bought around 30 boxes don't remember exactly but think it was like buy a 12pk and get something free I think it chips. that is why we went there otherwise mom would of just gone to sams. to avoid the headache of splitting transactions between her my sister and I
ReplyDeleteit should not apply to yellow heb coupons, source: work there, they want the business.
