Just a heads-up that HEB has made some changes in how shoppers will be redeeming digital coupons from the HEB mobile app!
Starting Wednesday, October 12, app users will be prompted to go in and download an update for their HEB mobile app.
When you do, the app will now feature a personalized barcode for your cashier to scan when you want to redeem your digital coupons.
This means in order to redeem Digital Coupons at checkout, you'll just open the mobile HEB app and tap Redeem Coupons to display the barcode for the cashier to scan.
UPDATE: According to a text message that HEB just sent out, this barcode will not replace the original system of using your telephone # and PIN # on the checkpad.
It's just an alternative way of accessing coupons -- so we can choose whichever way works best for us.
Happy dance!

If you're pleased to hear this update, be sure to pop over to the official HEB Facebook page and let them know!
No more entering your telephone number and PIN number on the checkpad at the register!
This will definitely benefit some shoppers (like me) who had a hard time remembering the PIN number they set for their mobile app.
On the other hand, it does require that you physically have your phone with you (and charged!) to be able to use your digital coupons.
So no more leaving your phone in the car while you run into the store!
Do you like these changes to the HEB mobile app? Or did you prefer the original way the program was set up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

I hate the change
ReplyDeleteI don't like it because my husband can use my info when he goes to HEB.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it either because we have multiple shoppers that use coupons in our household - the Mom, the Dad, the driving teenager learning about budgets...
ReplyDeleteHate it! I'm disabled and can no longer handle grocery shopping. I create my list and coupons and my husband shops. Now he cant because I have to have my phone due to medicine alarms, etc. Please rethink or offer both options.
ReplyDeletewell its like the target app with the bar code maybe now our coupons will go through cause before lots were not and you had to get credit or the manager/cashiers would give you hassle about the coupons.
ReplyDeleteI prefer using number and PIN.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind either but mobile number and pin is better in case my phone is dead. If I send my husband to the store, he can just sign in to my account on his phone. Plus I can make a shopping list on the app and he can login to see that too!
ReplyDeleteUnless the barcode changes each time you clip coupons you should be able to just take a screenshot of it. Even then, you can still take a screenshot shot to send to your family member before they head to store.
ReplyDeleteIt has security that won't let you screenshot it. I tried it.
DeleteArgh. Hate it.
ReplyDeleteYep. I like sending my husband sometInes or using his coupons when I'm already there. I am not a fan of this change either.
ReplyDeleteAccording to my text message that they sent me about the update, we will be able to us the barcode or our Phone #. It's what ever we prefer.
ReplyDeleteEither way works.. if you have multiple accounts just sign in and out of each account on your phone. The bar code changes with each account.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news but change is always difficult. OMG!
ReplyDeleteMy only problem would be that sometimes when I’m in the actual heb, on their WiFi, my phone just keeps buffering. That would send me into a panic if the coupons wouldn’t load.
ReplyDeleteNow I can't ask hubby to stop on his way home to pick me up something that uses a coupon...
ReplyDeleteYes you can. They're not taking away the key pad option. They just added the bar code option. So now you can use either.
