New HEB Coupon Policy March 2014 (Overage Is Here!)

how to coupon at HEB
I have some TERRIFIC news for HEB shoppers -- as of March 3, 2014, we have a new HEB coupon policy, and it actually will make couponing better and easier at HEB grocery stores!

I will cover the most important changes to the HEB coupon policy below, but it's really important that you go print a copy of the complete policy for your binder.

It can often take time for word of changes to roll out to cashiers, and this way you will be prepared and ready to advocate for yourself at checkout!

Here's the most important changes to the HEB coupon policy that I see:

  • "If the face value of a coupon exceeds the price of a qualifying item, the excess may be applied towards the balance of the order. Cash back is not permitted."  So that means that HEB is now officially offering overage on coupons (happy dance!)  You just won't receive any overage in coins or cash, but as long as you know that, you can certainly shop to cover the difference.  Again, happy dance!
  • HEB accepts manufacturer issued coupons with competitor logos (must have the wording "Manufacturer's Coupon" Printed on the Coupon.)  Previously, some stores would reject manufacturer coupons that printed with, say, a Walmart or a Target logo on them.  So this is a great clarification for stores!
  • NOTE: Keep in mind that you cannot use competing STORE coupons at HEB, just manufacturer coupons that print with another store's logo on it.  So this sort of coupon will be okay:
  • But this sort of coupon is not:

Again, please, PLEASE print a copy of the updated HEB coupon policy for your binders right away.  We are now officially able to take advantage of both these changes as of the morning of March 3!

Also, I just want to say I think HEB deserves some major kudos for streamlining their coupon policy and making changes that make it easier to coupon at stores instead of more difficult.

If you agree, please let them know over on their Facebook page or Twitter feed!

  1. I saved $20 in coupons yesterday at HEB but some of those were $3 and $4 coupons from HEB printed out with my receipt. LOVE THOSE.

  2. So does this mean that we can use $20 off of $50 household coupon from target at heb??

    1. No. If you get a manufacturer coupon from target, you can use that but not a coupon that reads target coupon.

    2. Only a manufacturers coupon,( the one from the newspaper adds.) That say you can only redeem at a specific store. Not the coupons that come from the store itself.

  3. This makes me so happy! Now I don't have to make twice monthly treks to Walmart with my coupons that say "redeemable at Walmart". Nan

  5. Thanks! So can we double up on coupons then? Their coupon + a manufacture coupon? I know I wasn't able to previously.

    1. No, sorry, stacking is still not allowed at HEB stores. I am just saying that if your manufacturer coupon prints with another store's logo on it, as seen in the photo examples above, you can now use it at all HEB locations. Previously, it was within the store's discretion to refuse those coupons, which was creating an inconsistent shopping experience from store to store.

    2. You can stack in some cases.... example. on BOGO you can use a coupon for the item you have to actually pay for. Atleast that works for me.

  9. I got an emailed coupon from HEB for $10, $5 or $3 off of a $30 purchase. Mine was for $5 off and I was able to use it on two separate visits! Expires today, 6/8/14.

  10. Also, its not 'stacking' coupons on the b1g1 offers. I believe they call it Piggybacking because your coupon is for what you actually have to pay for and their coupon covers the free product.

  11. Just watched a lady in Line with stack ofcoupons & thought wow, i wonder how much she will save? Then my wow turned into ugh! Complications!!! Line was held up & i finally moved to another line. Heb was telling her she could only use 4 of the same coupon @ 1 transaction/visit? Customer was adamant that no where was this stated in the rules & other mngr told her it was ok. As a beginning couponer where can i locate a full rules disclosure of coupons for heb? Also i have piles of extra coupons that i won't be using is there somewhere i can give these away? They're sorted by inserts. I cut what I need & the rest are just sitting.
