Time to check your freezers and your refrigerators if you've bought meat recently at HEB!

The company is participating in a beef recall on select cuts and SKUs, following fears that there may be undetermined 'foreign material, specifically metal' inside the following items:

The following SKUS are impacted by this voluntary recall:

  • 10-lb. (4.54 kg) chubs containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef” 73% Lean/27% Fat with a Packed On date of 7/26/2016, a Use-By date of 8/15/2016, and bearing case code number 00090180.
  • 5-lb. (2.27 kg) chubs containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef” 73% Lean/27% Fat with a Packed On date of 7/26/2016, a Use-By date of 8/15/2016, and bearing case code number 00090150.
  • 3-lb. (1.37 kg) chubs containing “Hill Country Fare Ground Beef” 73% Lean/27% Fat with a Packed On date of 7/26/2016, a Use-By date of 8/15/2016, and bearing case code number 00090170.
No illnesses have been reported as part of this recall, and no word is currently available on which stores were selling these particular SKUs.  However, a consumer did make a complaint of a small piece of metal in their purchased product.

Customers who purchased the affected product can return the product to the store for a full refund. Customers with any questions or concerns may call H-E-B Customer Relations at 1-800-432-3113.

    1. Hi Jenafur -- I recommend you pull the packaging to the meat (if you still have it) and compare the case code numbers to the ones impacted by the recall. If you purchased part of the impacted batch, then I recommend calling HEB Customer Relations for additional advice. :D

  6. Anything that has a sell by date of 08/15/16, what happened was some ink that prints the dates got on some of the meat. The statement of a piece of metal mentioned about was limited to one single store in West Texas last month that a worker grind a chub of meat and didn't take the little clip off that seals the meat.
